The charming village of Aldborough, was once
the important Roman garrison town of Isurium Brigantium a
major settlement for the Brigantes, the largest tribe in Roman
Britain. The stone walls and defensive towers form part of
some of the most extensive Roman remains in the country.
Visit the museum, which charters the history
of the town from AD71 and displays several colourful
tessellated pavement designs.
